The worst place on earth which updates with world events. WARNING*** Graphic content -- This project is not meant for persons under the age of 18. Conflictzone.AR http://conflictzonear.wordpress.com/ Conflictzone.AR is a work in progress. Some of the results the project produces may be inaccurate. The project team is currently working to refine the work. Conflictzone.AR is an augmented reality [AR] experience that places the user in a simulation of the world’s worst conflict zone at any given moment. I have created a project that determines the current worst war zone and then immerses viewers in it by sending scenes of the experience to the them via their smartphones. After downloading Conflictzone.AR, the phone or tablet will display current images and events taking place in the most dangerous present day conflict zone mixed into the local surroundings. AR allows viewers to see the artwork and their real world surroundings simultaneously. A jet may fly by in the distance while a car bomb may detonate directly in front of the viewer. The project will update the conditions of the war zone as these change. What the user sees The project draws information for a data base of sources such as Forbes.com’s “The World’s Most Dangerous Countries” to determine where the worst conflict zone is. As the data bases updates so will Conflictzone.AR. This may mean small changes such as more frequent gun fights or it could mean the experience moves to another geographic location changing the entire look and feel of the piece. People adapt to their local norms, which shape their understanding of reality. TV, Internet, radio, and print media all give the viewer windows into the world of conflict, but Conflictzone.AR immerses the viewer in these terrible realities taking place around the world. The project helps participants better understand what other people are experiencing under the most horrific circumstances. The extremely brutal conditions and moral challenges of a battle zone can provide new meanings for the viewer’s everyday experience. The goal of the project is to create global awareness of the fate of those people who are caught in the crossfire. project by - mark skwarek, todd margolis, arthur peters
