Dirk Groten, CTO of Layar shared current and new features to create immersive Augmented Reality using the Layar API. This third event video from the 1 year anniversary event is especially interesting for publishers and game designers who are gearing up to explore the emerging mass medium of augmented reality.

In this presentation Dirk also explained what effect the operator campaigns with Layar using TV ads during prime time shows in the US had on the servers.

Last week Layar celebrated its 1 year anniversary with the NEXT Event in Amsterdam, The Netherlands with fans, friends, developers, partners and VC’s. It was a great experience and lost of news and announcements were shared. See the whole overview in text here.

Coming Friday it’s time to celebrate Layar’s first anniversary with the NEXT Event in de Rode Hoed , Amsterdam. Prepare yourself for an afternoon of inspiring talks and presentations about what’s next for Layar. We will have some nice announcements, and we will reveal parts of our future plans.

The day after our Layar NEXT event on June 18th, we will host a Layar Developer Day at our office, route description. In the morning, we will discuss and explain new Layar features in detail. Developers will be given the opportunity to share lessons learned, tips and tricks and give feedback and ideas to the Layar team and other participants. In the afternoon, the Dutch National football team will play a WorldCup match against Japan. We will arrange a big screen so that you can either watch the match or do more socialising, coding, exchanging ideas etc.

Last week the first big Augmented Reality event took place at the Santa Clara Convention Center in the US. We were invited to speak in several slots. It was a great event organized by @comogard, @tishshute and @whurley. It was good to talk to all the others working hard to make the AR Mass medium emerge. Amazing to see what some are doing in the mapping and track field. The keynotes where inspiring. The one by Bruce Sterling is online as well as the one from Will Wright. Will Wright even mentions Layar in his Keynote (at minute 31). Hopefully the keynote by Jesse Schell will be online soon as that one was good and entertaining!
