Zalando’s SDK-Powered Interactive Magazine is Back

Chris Cameron April 14, 2015

Last year we told you about how Zalando, Europe’s leading online-only shoe, fashion and accessory retailer, had integrated the Layar SDK into its iOS app to give users a unique AR experience for its magazine. Now, the latest issue of Zalando’s magazine is out with even more great Augmented Reality and Interactive Print experiences.

Several pages within the magazine have been made interactive, giving readers a unique print-to-digital shopping experience that connects items in the magazine with their digital counterparts on the Zalando website. A variety of Augmented Reality features wow readers as photography comes alive with behind-the-scenes videos, and 360-degree experiences give them new views of top products, and much more.

“This new feature is a great opportunity to offer our customers additional inspiration for gifts, festive outfits or even their own wish list,” said Arne Schepker, Vice President of Brand Marketing at Zalando (translated from the company’s German press release). “With videos, music and 3D views, we encourage interaction with our customers and make our brands and products even more vivid.”

iOS users in Germany, Austria and Switzerland can download the Zalando app and scan the pages of the latest issue to see the interactive content. To see it in action, have a look at the video below!

Net-a-Porter Launches 2nd Interactive Print Issue

Chris Cameron April 18, 2014

Back in February we shared how Net-a-Porter had launched a completely new magazine with Layar’s Interactive Print technology built in from day one. And now we’re happy to share the Summer 2014 issue of PORTER is on newsstands now!

If you’re unfamiliar, Net-a-Porter is one of the biggest names in online luxury retail. It was a unique, but innovative step to enter into the print realm by launching PORTER – it’s not often that online outlets look to expand into print, it’s usually the other way around. But the truth is, Net-a-Porter saw a big opportunity to expand its online retail presence by reaching people where they discover fashion: in the pages of magazines.

With the custom Net-a-Porter app, readers can scan the pages to reveal links and instantly buy the season’s hottest items as they see them in the magazine. Whether checking out new shoes or upcoming summer styles, the latest PORTER provides convenient links back to Net-a-Porter’s online outlet to buy the items.

This month, the one-and-only Lady Gaga graces the cover. Inside, along with all of the latest in fashion, PORTER features interviews with celebs and personalities including “strong women” like Arianna Huffington, Sarah Silverman, Zoe Saldana, Christiane Amanpour and more. Readers can also view bonus videos with their favorite interview subjects by scanning the pages.

And the extra content doesn’t stop there. PORTER also features links on nearly all of its advertising pages for the biggest names and brands in fashion.

Net-a-Porter Goes to Print with Layar

Chris Cameron February 11, 2014

Net-a-Porter, one of the biggest names in online luxury shopping, has recently crossed over into print, launching its bi-monthly women’s magazine ”PORTER” complete with interactivity provided by Layar.

It’s a strategic and innovative step for the online fashion giant, and a logical one as fashion remains one of print’s most relevant and successful verticals. Net-a-Porter realized it made sense to get into the print industry as it found that many of its customers were already subscribed to between 4 and 5 fashion magazines.

The new PORTER magazine, launched on February 7th in over 60 countries, not only provides readers with the fashion insight and shopping they know from Net-a-Porter’s online presence – it also includes Interactive Print capabilities from Layar.

“PORTER will not only inspire and inform our reader with world class content but will also offer her the experience and service that she has come to expect, turning inspiration from the page into accessibility within seconds,” said editor-in-chief Lucy Yeomans in an interview with the Telegraph.

Nearly each page of the magazine (over 270 in total!) includes links to purchase products, watch videos, visit webpages and more. Readers need only scan the pages with the Net-a-Porter app, which uses the Layar SDK to provide interactive scanning in a friendly, familiar environment.

You can try it yourself as well by scanning PORTER magazine with the Layar App.

Elle Magazine Adds Layar in the UK

Chris Cameron August 23, 2013

Katy Perry isn’t the only eye-catching thing in this month’s Elle UK.

Inside the popular women’s magazine, readers will find they can scan pages with the Layar App to discover bonus materials, including links and behind-the-scenes videos.

Here’s what Elle had to say about its latest issue:

“You can bring the web page (pg 40) to life so you can get to the online content direct via your phone, including our behind-the-cover Katy Perry video.

See the Chanel page with the whole world on it? You can scan the page and see every look from that show while you’re on-the-go.

And that’s not all – you could also win a beauty goody bag, worth £200. All you need to do is head to pg 314 and find the hidden beauty video using your Layar app. Tweet @ELLEUK using #ELLEsept and the name of the video for your chance to win.”

With the Layar Creator, brands can easily add digital interactivity to print in just minutes! Learn more here!

SuitSupply’s Interactive Wall Street Journal Insert

Our friends at the Dutch fashion brand SuitSupply are back again with a huge, week-long insert campaign in the Wall Street Journal.

Just a few months ago in March we shared how SuitSupply launched its spring catalogue with an interactive print campaign that let you purchase items and see behind the scenes videos from their stylish photoshoots. Now, the brand is making a big push in the United States, publishing an interactive fashion newspaper in the Wall Street Journal.

The 32-page insert has been running since last Friday, May 9th and has the potential to reach 1.2 million subscribers per day. With the help of Layar partner Limebizz, the newspaper was made interactive with the Layar Creator.

“We’re getting a bigger footprint in the U.S., and we’re seeing lots more people going to our online store, so it made sense to do some with a bit of a broader reach,” CEO Fokke de Jong said in an interview with BusinessWeek.

The insert is a huge ad campaign from SuitSupply, and the fact that they’ve chosen to make it an interactive print campaign with Layar’s technology says a lot about their confidence in this new medium.

Brands are seeing higher engagement in ads and editorial content with interactive print, so it’s no surprise the SuitSupply again has chosen interactive print for this important campaign.
